NFS? STRINGPLAY a Mixed Media Abstract

Image
The abstract was NFS for years as it resided in the bathroom, because I loved the colors and looking at this abstract. Maybe I should give up and sale it? One of the first forays into making a mixed media abstract. Collages have always been a favorite and this has collage elements on a scale of 20 x 16 on wrapped canvas. The gold metallic underpainting peeps through all around. I'll miss it if it sells. I have been told ,"do not fall in love with your paintings"  For more art work go to :www.sallyfraserfineart.com sngfraser @gmail.com .com

SMALL OIL AND COLD WAX abstract by Sally Fraser

Image
Using the palette knife and experimenting with oil and cold wax , I was able to change this piece of art into a more dynamic abstract. 'ANOTHER PEACH" is also a monotone work in the Southwestern colors that appeal to me. This contemporary painting is on a 9x12 board with one half inch sides. A new cactus abstract "CACTUS DRAMA "

Image
CACTUS DRAMA   A palette knife painting on a 24x24 wrapped canvas. Dramatizing the size of the cactus paddle for a more abstract look and using a lot of texture with the palette knife. Living here in Austin, Texas spring brings lovely blossoms from the Tunas. Various cactuses abound all over the Hill Country and many are used for yard landscaping. Cactuses are very Southwestern and a regional type of art ...................! Sally Fraser    sngfraser @gmail.com       www.sallyfraserfineart.com

Palette Knife Painting of Mountains

Image
Mountain Memories Oil on 11 x 14 canvas done with my favorite tool, the palette knife.  Sanded and redid this painting today. The colors and focal point were off and the values are improved. Simplicity and monotone colors are my favorite way to paint. Geometric angles are sometimes seen in my paintings. To view more go to :www.sallyfraserfineart.com sngfraser @gmail.com

Creating Collages in Italy

Image
te Creating Collages in Italy   11x14 on paper Another collage created while attending an art sojourn in Italy.  One of my favorite activities is exploring papers, watercolors, acrylics and textures while putting together a collage. It is always a surprise what happens in this process.  Minimal colors are my choice along with texture.  www.sallyfraserfineart.com              sngfraser @gmail.com

Discovering Oil and Cold Wax

Image
Abstract on black with oil and cold wax with several layers using a sponge brayer, ribbon, paper and texture with a variety of tools.  There is a surprise when nothing is planned except keeping the colors to a minimum.  Exploring and opening up new avenues keeps the creative juices flowing www.sallyfraserfineart.com           Some of my oil and cold wax paintings are on my website.

More posts on discovering oil and cold wax on paper. Using a sponge brayer to roll out some colors, paper glues down, scratching and texturizing and getting the look I like. A small experiment. A fun experiment. A loose experiment!  And this paper has a shine to it!  9x11 See more paintings at www.sallyfraserfineart.com sngfraser @gmail.com

Oil and cold wax " CACTUS COOL"

Image
An oil and cold wax painting done with the pallet knife as it is one of my favorite tools.  Instead of an up and down piece of pottery I decided to cock the pottery to give it a more playful presence with very textured cactus and a colorful abstract background. I recently made it more dramatic with bolder colors as accents. 14 x 11 on canvas. www.sallyfraserfineart.com           sngfraser @gmail.com
